the positive predictive value of physicians at kerman emergency services

متن کاملPredictive value of blood cultures positive for coagulase-negative staphylococci: implications for patient care and health care quality assurance.
Interpretation of blood cultures that are positive for coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) is often difficult. Predictive values for blood cultures positive for CoNS in patients with a central vascular line in place were calculated using the following rates: true bacteremia, 3%; blood culture contamination, 2%; detection of bacteremia, 80%; and catheter colonization, 2% (for blood samples o...
متن کاملEvaluation of detection of positive blood cultures by pH changes.
We observed that the pH of positive blood culture broths was significantly lower than that of negative broths. However, significantly pH changes were generally not observed for subculture-positive, macroscopically negative blood culture broths. Therefore, although the pH of most positive blood culture broths was reduced significantly, this change was generally not useful for the early detection...
متن کاملPerformance of the FilmArray® blood culture identification panel utilized by non-expert staff compared with conventional microbial identification and antimicrobial resistance gene detection from positive blood cultures.
Utilization of commercially available rapid platforms for microbial identification from positive blood cultures is useful during periods of, or in laboratories with, limited expert staffing. We compared the results of the FilmArray® BCID Panel performed by non-expert technologists to those of conventional methods for organism identification performed by skilled microbiologists. Within 8 h of si...
متن کاملRapid detection of positive blood cultures.
A study of 16,108 blood cultures investigated the value of performing early smears in addition to the inspection of early subcultures after 12 h of incubation. The early smear and subculture detected 44.6% of 1,236 positive cultures; of those detected by the early subculture, 57.3% grew after 12 h of incubation.
